REFLECTION

PYP 4C Class
Behaviour Management

In the academic school year of 2014 - 2015 I am in PYP 4C. My class consists of 19 students with 2 teachers. I have 10 boys and 9 girls with unlike characteristic. I was so surprised at the beginning because I was going to teach the same students that I taught when they were in PYP 2. Some of my students in 4C have known me before.

I found so many differences facing the students in the class this year. They are getting mature so their attitude and behaviour also much developed. Some things that I observed in early school year were students independence and responsibility. Many students of mine were late and they showed irresponsibility in doing task and following the class agreement.

Having anecdotal records were one of the way to analyze the causes of students' irresponsibility. It was so hard to keep the students habit being discipline and responsible to their belonging. Almost half of the students need to improve it. I do understand because it is the transition from lower grade to upper grade.

First term just passed and there was no much different so it meant that I and my partner had to find another way to solve it. Then we were put into different group during PLC with other teachers who wanted to explore the same topic as mine.

During PLC I was in Behaviour Management 3 group. We did great things and shared some tasks to get the finding. We worked collaboratively to have the samples for our data. We finally found that there are four major causes of students' lateness and irresponsibility. The causes are family background, personal self-management skill, school and house distance, and school policy.

During the research we also noticed that it gave impact to the students' performance at school. Physically and psychologhy effect emerged when it happened most of the time. Imbalance appeared when teachers' treatments at school were much different from what parents did at school.

Slowly but sure we give encouragement to the students everyday by using class dojo reward system. Fortunately, using this systems motivated the students a lot.

Displaying students action when they showed IB profile, attitudes and skill somehow prompt them to be better. Not all students have shown good improvement but at least we have done our best and most of the students exposed positive behaviour.

PYP 4 Team Sharing

I am glad to be put in this team this year even mostly I have to work with those new people. Since the beginning of the team announcement I was quite surprised because it is the biggest team with 8 members.

Problems often happen among us even with some arguments but that is okay since mostly works have been done very well. What I like from this team is we can have more laughter in teachers' room talking and discussing any topics.

Invo;ving in UOI team makes me learn that we need to adjust the task which suitable the students year level. There is no standard or border to learn about something in each unit. For some people it does not make sense so it is our responsibility to make the lesson personalised, contextual and it can be applied in real life.

Being a teacher in upper grades is not as easy as it seen. Sharing knowledge and experience to all team member in teaching a concept was good to strengthen our skill. Discussing the problems either about students' cognitive skill or misbehaviour occured during the lesson in each class, made all of us know the update issue.

In a class working cooperatively with partner is very useful since we can share the job we have to be completed at the same time. This year both I and my partner can work and support each other so all works seem easy with some pressure.
