WHO WE ARE

An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs and values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities, and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.

Central Idea

Understanding how our body works enhances our health and well being.

Lines Of Inquiry:

  • How body systems work and are interdependent

  • Factors that affect our body systems

  • Actions to keep our body systems healthy

Key Concepts:

Connection, Responsibility, Reflection

Related concepts:

systems, well being, health, interconnection, impact, initiative

Science strands:

Living things (homeostasis and systems-biology)

Nervous, Digestive, Musculoskeletal, Respiratory, Circulatory

PSPE strands:

active living (fitness, endurance, recovery)

Arts strand: responding (interpretation, technique of movement, performance)

Summative Assessment:

In  pair, students present Dr.OZ Indonesia talk show to discuss about :

1. How a certain body system relate other systems

2. One common disease related with the chosen body system

3. How the common disease affects the body systems

4. How to maintain health in order to avoid the disease

Summative assessment tool:

Rubric

Summative assessment strategy:

Process- focused assessment

CLASS ACTIVITIES

At the beginning of the unit students did brainstorming about things they have known and listed some inquiry questions that they want to learn.

What I KNOW

  • We have brain and heart. (Z)

  • We use our brain to think. (V)

  • We have digestive system. When you eat food it will digest. (S)

  • Digestive system process food becomes other part (nutrition) in or body (Van).

  • Our body organ crushes our food into little part.(R)

  • We use our brain to control our body (O)

  • The function of our heart rate is to know that you’re bleeding or not (L).

  • Our mouth part help to chew the food so we can easily to swallow the food and our teeth can chew the food ex like molars. (A)

  • Our white blood cells are used to captured virus in or body. (P)

  • Our white blood will die after eating (capturing) the virus. (MK)

  • We use muscle a lot when we do exercise. (o)

  • If we eat food contain protein our body can grow faster. (T)

  • Food that we eat makes energy that give our bone energy (AU)

  • Inside our body have heart, stomach and everything (Mi)

  • If we eat too fast our stomach will be hard to digest our food that we eat. (F)

  • We have our own health (D)

  • Our health is important to us because we have to take care of ourselves.

  • If we breathe there is good oxygen and the lung will take it and throw the bad oxygen. (S)

What I WANT to Know

  • Why could our white blood cell capture the virus then die?

  • Why do we need small intestine for?

  • How does the organ crush food?

  • What are our organs made of?

  • What kind of systems do we have in our body?

  • Why do we have blood in our body?

  • Which part of our body is digestive system?

  • How do our body systems function properly?

  • How many body systems do we have?

  • What part of our body process food?

  • What is the function of our body organ?

  • How our body works?

  • How many bones inside our body?

  • Why our bones crack?

  • What is circulatory system?

  • How can we grow?

  • Where do our hair and nail come from?

During this unit the students learnt about body organs and human body systems. They did class inquiry based on their interest which was divided by 4 body sytems such as nervous systems, respiratory system, digestive system and muscular and skeletal system.
